Lifeimi Mafi is to return to action this weekend for Munster ‘A’ when he lines up to face Ulster ‘A’ in Nenagh on Friday night.

The Tongan-born centre underwent surgery on his shoulder after picking up the injury in last season’s Magners League semi-final defeat by Leinster.

The 28-year-old has 61 Magners League appearances to his name and makes a welcome return to fitness with fellow centre Barry Murphy still sidelined.

With Murphy and Mafi unavailable and Jean de Villiers’ having returned to South Africa, Munster employed a brand new centre partnership in the games against Aironi and Edinburgh, with former Leicester wing Johne Murphy lining up alongside Worcester recruit Sam Tuitopou.

Anthony Foley’s ‘A’ side will be looking to continue a good start to the season after an impressive 19-7 victory over Leinster ‘A’ at Donnybrook last weekend.

The senior Munster side take to the field for the first time in Limerick at the weekend when they welcome Magners League champions the Ospreys to Thomond Park.

The Irish province sit at the top of the Magners League after victories over Aironi and Edinburgh and will look to turn around their fortunes against the Ospreys, who completed the double over them last season.
