Connacht have signed New Zealand’s Junior World Cup winning prop Rodney Ah You on an 18-month deal.

The 22-year-old who lifted the IRB Junior title in both 2007 and 2008 arrives at the Sportsground from New Zealand provincial side Canterbury and will provide injury cover for former England tight-head Robbie Morris.

After only taking up rugby at the age of 16, Ah You quickly progressed through the ranks at Canterbury and was capped at Under-19 and Under-20 level for New Zealand.

His contract will see him remain in Ireland until the end of 2011/12 season.

Connacht travel to Northern Italy this weekend to play Benetton Treviso this and the Italians sit just one place above them in the Magners League table.

The Irish side are looking for their first win since September 17 when they beat Glasgow at Firhill.
