Cardiff Blues centre Jamie Roberts is set to make an ‘imminent’ return to action after being given the green-light by surgeons.

Although Roberts picked up the injury during the Lions' second Test against South Africa the extent of the problem remained undetected for 12 months.

He last played during Wales' two-test tour of New Zealand in June. But is set to hand both club and country a major boost by making his comeback in the next weeks.

"Just had my appointment with the wrist surgeon," said Roberts.

"I walked out feeling like a kid at Christmas, return to the playing field imminent!"

The news will be a major boost to Blues head coach Dai Young. The Welsh region face a busy festive period with crunch Magners League ties against Newport Gwent Dragons and the Ospreys.
