Newport Gwent Dragons captain Tom Willis is battling to be fit for his side’s European fixture against London Wasps at the weekend.

Injuries have restricted the kiwi hooker to just four Magners League appearances so far this season and a knee complaint is putting his appearance in doubt on Sunday.

“We are not sure of Tom’s fitness and we’ll decide on Friday,” said Dragons coach Paul Turner.

"We knew he had a bit of a problem and we’ve got to decide whether to leave it a week and have him for the Christmas games or play him this weekend."

On a positive note for the Welsh region back row forward Andrew Coombs and wing Nathan Brew both return to the squad after injury.

The Dragons have also added Pat Leach into their European squad after de-registering scrum half Danny Lee who announced his retirement last month.

"Pat has been added though it leaves us a bit bare in other positions," said Turner.

"We thought do we revert back to Will Harries (at full back) and leave Pat to play at Worcester with Newport or carry on with the experiment (Leach playing out of position at 15). It’s worked quite well, so that’s what we’ve done."

Squad: P Leach, W Harries, A Hughes, A Brew, N Brew.
