The atmosphere at Rodney Parade gives Dragons prop Hugh Gustafson the goosebumps every time he takes to the field.
The 23-year-old who has been a pillar of the Dragons set-piece, is in awe of the loyal supporters that flock to the stadium to cheer on their side and believes they add an extra dimension to the Dragons game.
“Rodney Parade might not be a high-tech stadium, but the atmosphere does give you goose bumps, especially that half-lap we do before the game,” he told the Western Mail.
“When you’re looking down and thinking it’s a hard game, the crowd gives you a chant,” he said.
“You immediately think I’m not just doing it for the club, but for the region and the fans.
“They give you an extra boost of energy.
“When the ‘Dragons’ chant comes in you think, ‘It’s great to play here.’”
Gustafson made the move East from the Scarlets in 2006 and was an immediate success in Newport.
The former Wales under-20 captain was only 18 when he left his native Llanelli and he has already racked up 45 appearances in the Magners League.
Gustafson was in the squad named to face Cardiff Blues in the festive period derby which had to be postponed due to a frozen pitch.
