Edinburgh centre Nick De Luca has handed Scotland head coach Andy Robinson an injury scare ahead of the RBS 6Nations.

The 19-cap centre was tipped as a replacement for the injured Graeme Morrison but came off with an injury during Edinburgh's European defeat by Cardiff on the weekend.

Edinburgh confirmed De Luca suffered an ankle injury.

"De Luca went over on an ankle. Subject to further assessment, " stated the club.

The centre who has made 56 Magners League appearances in five seasons at Edinburgh has only just returned from a long-standing groin injury and has featured in the league games against Glasgow and the Scarlets.

But he could now be set for another frustrating spell on the sidelines.

Edinburgh are about to embark on a difficult period in the Magners League. First they travel to Rodney Parade to take on Newport Gwent Dragons on February 12 before making trips to Munster and the Scarlets in the following weeks.
