Cardiff Blues have made eight changes ahead of their second pre-season friendly when they face Bath this evening.

After kicking off their full-squad programme last Friday, winning 37-6 away to Pontypridd, Blues coaches Gareth Baber and Justin Burnell will be looking at different player combinations.

Full-back Dan Fish and prop Nathan Trevett are among those who drop to the bench with flanker Ellis Jenkins stepping in for Thomas Young.

Baber – who was appointed Head Coach alongside Burnell in July – wants his players to use the Bath match to show what they are capable of.

"We've been working in pre-season on getting more width to our game," he said.

"It doesn't happen overnight, we have to work hard on it, and especially the skill levels."

"However, conditioning also comes into it, as we want to play at that tempo for longer periods."

"Friday is our last pre-season game before we take on Edinburgh in the RaboDirect PRO12 and we need to have a look at individuals, combinations of players and units of players to see how our team is coming together."

"This is going to be an opportunity for players to put their hands up."

"In fairness all the players have worked hard, so it's a nice problem for me and Justin to have in selecting the team for the opening weekend."

The Blues will be looking to improve on last year’s sixth-place finish, when a 38-23 final day defeat away to fellow Welsh side Scarlets denied them a play-off place.
