Munster prop BJ Botha has been cleared of headbutting Ospreys’ Richard Hibbard during the two side’s RaboDirect PRO12 clash on October 8.

The former South Africa international had originally be cited for allegedly striking an opponent with his head during the Thomond Park clash – in which the Ospreys prevailed 17-13 – would therefore have fallen foul of Law 10.4 (a).

However a disciplinary hearing in Edinburgh, chaired by Paul Minto, on Tuesday dismissed the charges.

A statement read: “At a disciplinary hearing in Edinburgh today, BJ Botha, Munster tighthead prop, was cleared of foul play having been cited by the independent Citing Commissioner at the match between Munster and the Ospreys on 8 October 2011 for striking an opponent with the head….

“An independent Rabo Direct PRO12 Disciplinary Committee…considered the video evidence and listened to the player’s explanation of the incident and found that, on the balance of probabilities, the incident that was cited was not an act of foul play under Law 10.4 (a).

“The Committee was not satisfied that the citing complaint could be upheld.”
