Sinoti keen to get back to winning ways

Aironi winger Sinoti Sinoti is desperate for his side to rediscover that winning feeling when they welcome Leicester Tigers to town for their opening Heineken Cup clash on Saturday.

The Italians have only won one game all season, that came against Edinburgh in the RaboDirect PRO12 back in September.

Since then Rowland Phillips’ side have struggled, falling to four consecutive defeats in the league and their task doesn’t get any easier with the two-time European Champions the opposition this weekend.

Aironi’s first ever victory as a club came in the group stages of the Heineken Cup last year against French heavyweights Biarritz Olympique and the Samoan flyer admits it is high time they got back to winning ways.

“The objective for this Heineken Cup is to win, because it’s been too long since we won a game. We’ve missed some good chances since the Edinburgh game,” he said.

“To reach our goals we need to keep training hard during the week, concentrating our focus on Saturday.

“We need to be quicker to adapt our game to the weather conditions, but also read the game better. Against both Munster and Glasgow we had a good defence, but you can always do better. From there we can build our game and start scoring points.”

There will be a number of familiar faces on the other side of the pitch for Sinoti when the two sides run out at the Stadio Brianteo on Saturday including Scott Hamilton who he faced regularly in his days at Wellington as well compatriot Alesana Tuilagi.

And Sinoti admits he is relishing the challenge of taking on some of Europe’s finest when their Pool 4 clash gets underway.

“For me, Giamba (Venditti), Giulio (Toniolatti), or whoever plays, it will be a huge challenge facing Scott Hamilton who I know well and Alesana Tuilagi.

“It will however also be one of those challenges which you want to face at this level. It will be exhilarating.”
