Wales flanker Martyn Williams has been officially named in the Queen’s New Year Honours list – joining Edinburgh full-back Chris Paterson in the process.

Paterson’s MBE for services to rugby was announced on New Year’s Eve with Williams, who plays for Cardiff Blues in the RaboDirect PRO12 following in his footsteps.

Williams has enjoyed, and continues to enjoy, a stellar career winning the Grand Slam with Wales in 2005 and 2008 and touring with the British and Irish Lions three times.

He is also just one international cap away from 100 – a feat a broken arm put paid to him achieving at the World Cup – however it should be reached at the upcoming RBS 6 Nations.
