Scarlets head coach Nigel Davies is looking to bolster the region’s trophy cabinet as his side prepare for Sunday’s LV Cup semi-final with Northampton.

Davies’ side ended Saints’ four-year unbeaten home streak in the Heineken Cup by recording a memorable 28-23 win at Franklin’s Gardens in November and they will be hoping to repeat the feat.

The Llanelli region are fighting on a number of fronts with a top-four RaboDirect PRO12 finish in their sights, while an Amlin Challenge trip to Brive awaits them next month.

And although the LV Cup is considered by some to be a less prestigious competition, Davies is keen to get his hands on any trophies he can.

“We are out to win silverware,” Davies told WalesOnline. “We said at the outset of the season that we wanted to get to the play-offs.

“We have done that in two of the three competitions so far and the more this group experience that intensity of rugby the better.

“The large majority of this team would not have experienced the play-off scenario before so it will be a great experience for them.”

Both sides will be missing several key players due to the Six Nations but the Scarlets welcome back Lou Reed, Stephen Jones, Aaron Shingler, Rhodri Jones and Liam Williams after they were released by Wales.

“Obviously there will be a lot of changes from the Heineken Cup game because of the Six Nations players being away, but this is a great opportunity for the boys coming in.

“A lot for them have been champing at the bit, they have been really pushing the more established players so it is a great opportunity for them.”
