Edinburgh prop Robin Hislop believes he’s ready to make his first RaboDirect PRO12 start after showing what he can do from the bench against Leinster last time out.

With two men in the sin bin Edinburgh were struggling at the home of the European champions but 20-year-old Hislop entered the fray to help keep a fierce Leinster onslaught at bay.

Edinburgh eventually left Dublin with a bonus point and Hislop, who has now made 13 appearances for the Gunners from the bench, can take great credit for that.

And Hislop has revealed he no longer feels nervous about pulling on the Edinburgh jersey.

“We didn’t win in Dublin but our performance was a lot better than the previous year and we survived with 13 men for a spell and came away with a bonus point for finishing within a single score,” Hislop told the Scotsman.

“I was warming up behind the posts when I saw ?Yappy [John Yapp] being carded and I thought ‘Okay, I’m going to be on here’.

“Fortunately, Ross Ford was able to talk me through that crucial period when Leinster were attacking us and also when Coxy [Sean Cox] was off.

“I feel much more comfortable about turning out for Edinburgh compared with a year ago when I would sit on the bench feeling very nervous.

“The longest stint I have actually had for Edinburgh is 40 minutes away to Aironi but I feel I am learning all the time from playing against some really experienced props.”
