Zebre coach Roberto Manghi insists it’s only a matter of time before the Italians break their RaboDirect PRO12 duck after seeing his side go down narrowly away to the Scarlets.

The Welsh side lie second in the RaboDirect PRO12, well clear of Manghi’s men who are still searching for a first success of the campaign.

But at Parc y Scarlets it required an opportunistic try from Kristian Phillips to send the home side into the lead with just seven minutes remaining, before an Aled Thomas penalty denied the Zebre the consolation of a bonus point.

And while that means it is now seven league matches without a win, Manghi is confident Zebre’s luck will turn.

He said: “In terms of results I’m clearly not too happy. We had the chance in two matches and unfortunately we let both of them get away from us. There has been an improvement in terms of technique in the group which bodes well for the future.

“We have a young core which allows us to be exuberant at certain times in the match but also means that we makes mistakes which are often costly. We are playing against teams with more experience but this technical improvement will soon lead to a win: I hope it’s the moment which will mean that we reach our potential in all aspects.

“There is a little continuity missing, being clinical at the key moments of the match. When we have the chance to score and put pressure on our opponents we aren’t efficient.

“At the same time, we have played some good rugby at times even if we haven’t capitalised on it. In six of our nine matches we’ve still been in the game with five minutes to go.”
