Leinster prop Cian Healy is convinced Ireland new-boy Richardt Strauss will fit seamlessly into the international side – because of his grounding at the province.

Ireland’s front row comprises of Healy, Mike Ross and Strauss – all three of whom play for Leinster, and of the six front rows in the squad all but one play for Joe Schmidt’s side.

Strauss has been a stalwart for Leinster in the RaboDirect PRO12 this season, and indeed since arriving at the European champions in 2009, and as he wins his first Ireland cap, Healy is convinced he will hit the ground running.

“It (his progress) has been very gradual,” Healy told the Belfast Telegraph. “There was no immediate, sudden stuff. But you can just see the amount of hard work he has put in, learning the game and how we play at Leinster.

“He knows how we’re going for it together with Ireland as well, so it’s something he has put a lot of time and work into, studying how the game is played here.

“It fits perfectly with him and how he wants to play. He’s a quick guy, likes to tackle, likes to poach and stuff and that’s what we’re after — a good, fast game, good tackles, up on the ball and — if you get it — going back into the line and attacking.”
