Peter Edwards celebrates his 36th birthday before the opening weekend of the 2016/17 Guinness PRO12 season, but the Scarlets prop has no intention of slowing down.
Edwards is about to embark on his sixth Guinness PRO12 campaign with the Welsh region and is currently being put through his paces with some gruelling pre-season training ahead of the curtain-raiser with Munster at Parc y Scarlets on 3 September.
The powerful front row has featured in 33 league matches over the last two campaigns as Scarlets have finished sixth and fifth respectively.
But Edwards has no intention of winding down and turning his attention towards retirement.
“I just want to keep playing,” he told the South Wales Evening Post.
“People ask me for how long I intend to go on, and I say for as long as I'm good enough.
“I just enjoy rugby. If I'm not playing I'm annoyed.
“The Scarlets is a great environment to be in, with a great bunch of boys.
“I take it year by year, but my attitude has always been that age is just a number.
“All the ex-players I talk to tell me that you are a long-time retired and say you have to make the most of it while you can.”
