News, Zebre

At the end of today’s training session in Newport High School, the Zebre coaching staff announced the team that will play the Dragons tomorrow night in the second round of the Guinness PRO12 .

Opponents of Zebre Rugby are the Welsh Dragons beaten by Biagi and his team mates 47-22 in Parma in the last round of last season 2015/16 back in May. In the previous eight meetings between the two teams there were two Italian wins, one draw and 5 Dragons wins for a side defeated only once at Rodney Parade since 2007 against an Italian team.

In the last season of Guinness PRO12, Zebre gained one more victory than their Welsh opponents who preceded them by only two points in the final table thanks to 10 defensive bonus points, a record amongst the twelve sides of the competition.

For the important challenge of tomorrow night, Zebre can rely on the recovery of some athletes including internationals Fabiani and Geldenhuys which will start in a starting XV who sees 10 international part of the last summer tour of Italy. Among those changes respect to the Liberty Stadium opener, on the bench Engelbrecht, Koegelenberg, Pratichetti and Roan gain their first seasonal call. International prop Lovotti won’t be part of the game, suspended for two weeks by the referee’s commission of the tournament after being cited for a blow to Tipuric during last week Ospreys challenge.
