Louis Ludik had no hesitation in penning a three-year extension to his Ulster contract and says he is loving life in Belfast after two years in the city.
The full-back joined the Guinness PRO12 side in 2014 from Super Rugby side The Sharks and qualifies for Ireland on residency next summer, allowing Ulster to offer him a long-term deal.
The 30-year-old missed large parts of last season with a groin injury but a frustrating few months on the pitch has not dampened his enthusiasm for the club or the area.
“There was no doubt at all. It’s obviously a yes,” he told the Belfast Telegraph.
“As a family we love Belfast. It really makes everything easier when your family is happy. There was no decision to make really.
“The friendliness of people here is still unbelievable. I always think how you act when you drive says a lot.
“I’m used to France and South Africa where people are extremely impatient but my first time driving here people were waving me out all over and giving space.”
Ulster have made a steady start to the new campaign with five wins from seven games in the Guinness PRO12, but Ludik has not featured since their match with Connacht last month when he fractured his cheekbone.
“It’s recovering,” he said. “It was extremely painful but I didn’t know exactly what was wrong. The doc immediately thought the cheekbone was broken.
“I didn’t know exactly how long that meant I would be out but, four to six weeks, it’s not too bad and I should be back after that break.
“There’s a long season ahead and I’ll just have to work harder to maintain that form and get back into the squad.
“It hasn’t been great the last couple of weeks but hopefully we can pick it up again.”
