With Ospreys and Scarlets currently sitting in the Guinness PRO12 top four, Cardiff Blues in a battle for a Champions Cup spot and Newport Gwent Dragons having recorded victories over the likes of Connacht and Edinburgh – the Welsh regions have certainly made their mark so far this season.
And with a string of impressive individual performances, it comes as no surprise that some of the highest-scoring players in our Guinness PRO12 Fantasy Rugby game ply their trade in Wales.
We’ve put together the Welsh Regions Guinness PRO12 Dream Team through 10 Rounds of action, so make sure you check out the below and get some of these stars in your fantasy line-ups for the weeks to come.
An all-Scarlets half-back pairing kicks off our Welsh Dream Team as 52-point Jonathan Evans starts at scrum-half with Rhys Patchell slotting into the No.10 jersey.
In fact, no fly-half in the whole Guinness PRO12 has accrued more fantasy points than Patchell’s 65 – with three conversions and a try assist helping him to nine points against Zebre in Round 10 alone.
Evans and Patchell’s club team-mate Steffan Evans is on the left wing, while Cardiff Blues have representation on the right wing in the form of Tom James, and Ospreys’ Dan Evans complete the back-three.
Fijian powerhouse Josh Matavesi is the man you want in the centres as he has racked up a massive 71 points to date – Edinburgh’s Magnus Bradbury is the only man in the entire league with more – while Pat Howard of Newport Gwent Dragons completes the back-line.
Our Welsh Dream Team would certainly have continuity in reality with an all-Scarlets back-row being the most productive choices so far this season.
Will Boyde and Aaron Shingler are the second and third highest-scoring back-rowers in the entire Guinness PRO12, while James Davies just gets the nod as well.
Davies is level on 34 points with Ospreys duo James King and Dan Baker but is selected by virtue of the most turnovers won (12).
Alun Wyn Jones may only have played five Guinness PRO12 games this season but having accrued nine, 12 and ten points in gameweeks three, six and 10 respectively, the 40-pointer is a shoo-in for a spot in the boiler room alongside Dragon Rynard Landman.
And although front-rowers often do a lot of the unseen, dirty work, the big men have provided a veritable feast of points in fantasy rugby. Sam Parry’s 58 points are more than any other Welsh-based forward and earn him a place in our front row alongside Werner Kruger and Sam Hobbs.
