The victory maintains the Welsh side’s impressive recent record having now lost just once in their past seven matches in all competitions. They have also won eight in a row at home, in all competitions.
Leinster took the early advantage after forcing a turnover in midfield, Keith Gleeson then put Gordon D’Arcy into space and he raced away for the score. Contepomi rammed home their advantage by adding the extras.
However, D’Arcy undid his hard work by gifting an interception to the Scarlets’ Matthew Watkins moments later. The Scarlets’ speedster took the opportunity to pull the hosts back into the contest. Mike Hercus levelled the scores by slotting the conversion.
Some smart work from Regan King inspired the Scarlets’ next score. He created the break before Mark Jones fed wing Barry Davies with a controversial scoring pass.
Once again Hercus ensured they took the maximum.
Davies extended the Scarlets’ lead with a long-range penalty as the half came to a close but Contepomi cancelled that score out with a penalty of his own.
The second period proved brought a another penalty for Contepomi and Scarlets’ flyhalf Mike Hercus and little other action to talk of.
As the game ground to a close Hickie crossed in the corner to give Leinster hope of some reward but Contepomi could only find the woodwork with his conversion so ending their hopes of a draw.
